

Karen Clegg
Head of Research Excellence Training

Karen provides strategic direction for the Research Excellence Training (RET) provision at the University of York. Working to support the University’s Research Strategy RET co-ordinate and deliver training for doctoral students, early career researchers, doctoral supervisors and Principal Investigators and professional support staff aligned to research.
Responsibilities include:

Co-ordination of the University’s Concordat and ‘HR Excellence in Research’ (HRS4) process

Oversight of all training and public engagement activities for researchers

Co-delivery of the Times Higher Award winning ‘Research Leaders’ programme for academic staff and PIs

Development and delivery of training for PGR Supervisors

Co-ordination and deliver of training for Fellows and oversight of the University's Enterprise Fellowship programme

Supporting the implementation of the Research Strategy and York Graduate Research School activity

Developing partnerships national and internationally to further enhance the support available to researchers.
Karen has a PhD in Education, has published widely on Assessment, is a trained coach and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. A second edition of 'Innovative Assessment in Higher Education: a handbook for academic practitioners ' is released May 2019.
